When and How to use P/E ratio (Price-Earning ratio)

Which stock and when to invest? A key question every person about to invest has in their mind. The answer to these issues is Price-Earning (PE) ratio and popular in the investment community. However, it is not entirely reliable.

PE ratio is one widely used tool for stock selection. One key thing you need to remember is this ratio is only useful in comparing companies in the same industry. A higher P/E ratio means that investors are paying more for each unit of net income, so the stock is more expensive compared to one with lower P/E ratio.

Calculation

The PE is calculated by dividing the market price per share by the earnings per share (EPS).

As mentioned above higher PE ratio refers that the stock is expensive which means it is possible that share is overpriced and Lower price ratio, on the other hand, may refer to the poor performance of the company. That is the reason why I said PE is completely reliable. You have to look at the background of the company, before investing.

World's largest passenger airplane - A380

A350_XWB_-_A380_-_A400M_-_Airbus_flight_crew_-_FIA_2016-024
Airbus’ 21st century flagship A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by European Union manufacturer Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner. The plane is so big so the airports at which it operates have upgraded facilities to accommodate it. A380-800's cabin is 550 square metres (5,920 sq ft) of usable floor space, this is 40% more than the next largest airliner, the Boeing 747-8, and provides seating for 525 people in a typical three-class configuration or up to 853 people in an all-economy class configuration.
FYI: The Boeing's 747-8 is the longest passenger aircraft in the world

Who affords it?

As of September 2016, Airbus had received 319 orders and delivered 195 aircraft. Emirates is the biggest A380 customer with 142 ordered of which 83 have been delivered. Thai Airways International, British Airways, Qantas, Asiana Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Air France are other operators.

Components and Suppliers

  • A380 components are provided by suppliers from around the world. the four largest contributors, by value, are Rolls-Royce, Safran, United Technologies and General Electric.
  • The front and rear fuselage sections are shipped on one of three RORO ships from Hamburg in northern Germany to the United Kingdom.
  • The wings are manufactured at Broughton in North Wales, then transported by barge to Mostyn docks for ship transport.
  • The belly and tail sections are manufactured in Cádiz in southern Spain.
The shortest regular commercial route that the A380 flies is from Dubai International Airport to Kuwait International Airport (861 km or 535 miles great circle distance) with Emirates, although Air France briefly operated the A380 on the much shorter Paris-Charles de Gaulle to London-Heathrow route (344 km or 214 miles) in mid-2010. The longest A380 route and the second longest non-stop commercial flight in the world is Qantas' service from Sydney International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at 13,804 kilometres (8,577 mi). After the introduction of A380 and Boeing's 787 variants. The aviation industry is having a boom. If you are unclear about Cabin and Check in baggage read my post What is Cabin and Check-in baggage?.

What is cabin baggage and check-in baggage ?

Cabin baggage

Cabin baggage or Hand luggage is the type of luggage that passengers are allowed to carry along in the passenger compartment of a vehicle (airplane or train) instead of moving to the cargo compartment. In North America it is commonly referred as Carry-on. There is a limit for the passengers of carrying smaller bags with them in the vehicle and should contain valuables and items needed during the journey. There is normally storage space provided for hand luggage, either under seating, or in overhead lockers in flights. Whereas, in trains usually we can see luggage racks above the seats and in the case of trains travelling longer distance they have luggage space between the backs of seats facing opposite directions, or in extra luggage racks - for example, at the ends of the carriage near the doors.

Size restrictions
As per the IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules, Cabin baggage should have a maximum length of 56 cm (22 inches), the width of 45 cm (18 inches) and depth of 25 cm (10 inches) including all handles, side pockets, wheels etc. However, in practice the actual size and weight limits of cabin baggage can differ widely between airlines, in some it dependent on the aircraft model being used and it depends on the booking class - Economy, Business and etc..,

Check-in baggage / Checked baggage

Check-in baggage or Checked baggage refers to the luggage delivered to an airline or train for transportation in the hold of an aircraft or baggage car of a passenger train, which means it is inaccessible to the passenger during the flight or ride.

Weight restrictions
As per the IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules, The bag should weigh less than 23KG/50LBS. This is an international regulation set for the health and safety of airport workers who have to lift hundreds of bags daily. If your bag weighs more than this, you may be asked to repack, or have it labeled as "heavy luggage". The maximum weight however is 32KG/70LBS in the EU and the US. Some airlines impose lower limits. You can refer the airline's websites for more detail about their limits .

Conclusion
Both the Cabin and check-in baggage has limits in carrying size, weight and items. For instance, British Airways there is a limit that liquid you carry must be in its own container of no more than 100 ml. Similarly, the weight and size limits differ from airlines to airlines and It also depends on the Ticket class you buy. So, it is always recommended you to visit the website of concern airline and plan before packing your bags.
